“And this Thing I saw! How can I describe it? A monstrous tripod, higher than many houses, striding over the young pine trees, and smashing them aside in its career; a walking engine of glittering metal, striding now across the heather; articulate ropes of steel dangling from it, and the clattering tumult of its passage mingling with the riot of the thunder.”
Extract from War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells 1898
I am a big Wells fan, and also loved Jeff Wayne’s Musical version of War of the Worlds since I was a toddler... although it terrified me as much as fascinated me. I could have done without the Tom Cruise bollocks… IT WAS SET IN VICTORIAN ENGLAND PEOPLE!!!
I drew / painted this in Photoshop, over the top of a digitally altered sunset photo I took. It was awkward to paint the tripod as I was using a laptop and had to use the finger sensitive pad thing, instead of a mouse or tablet.
